The Snail - Helix Aspersa

This is the latin name for the snail that provides the special ingredient for our beauty creams.280px-Common_snailThis is the same snail that is bred for the French Cuisine market. There are a number of snail farms set up in South America that service this market and it is here that the qualities of the snail extract were discovered. A doctor discovered that the workers on the snail farm had far softer hands than other manual workers in the region and that any cuts and scrapes they received healed in record time. He set about analysing the mucus that the snails generate to enable them to move. The snail's muscular foot contracts to move the animal, and secretes mucus to facilitate locomotion by reducing friction against substrate. The common term in England is snail trail. In some countries it is referred to as slime and others as dribble. None of these terms sound at all pleasant so we have settled for Extract.

The doctor set about collecting the mucus and carrying out a thorough laboratory analysis. He discovered that it is rich in Allantoin, Glycolic Acid, Collagen, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Elastin. All of these ingredients are key to healthy skin. The Doctor saw the commercial possibilities immediately and set about developing beauty products using the   special ingredient. This is   a very difficult market to break in to and requires massive amounts of investment capital. The snail farmers soon learned about the new possibilities from their snails. This has resulted in the the magic ingredient being made available all   over the world. One of the first European companies to get involved are the Spanish company Berioska. They launched their first   Snail Extract product at the beginning of 2007 using their flagship brand Babaria. This product has proven to be a spectacular success and three other products were quickly introduced.

The snail extract   comes from the   Helix Aspersa   species and is collected from animals bred in a completely natural environment. Before subjecting the snail to the extraction process, it is carefully purged and given special treatment. Following extraction, the snail is returned , unharmed and healthy, to the breeding zone.
